The projects of Hillsong Africa Foundation

IMG_0517

There are 10 projects that make up Hillsong Africa Foundation (HAF):

* Free Wheelchair Project – provides wheelchairs to those who are physically impaired in disadvantaged areas of South Africa. A wheelchair decreases the individual’s dependency on others and increases their mobility. Wheelchairs are not easy to get in many disadvantaged communities and some people have waited years to receive one. This program is blessing many with new hope and independence.

*Woman and Orphan Care – includes Life Skills Camps for vulnerable children, a weekly Kids Club in Westlake as well as social needs assessments.

*Mitchell’s Plain – Creates opportunities for individual empowerment, team building, and community growth within Mitchell’s Plain and the neighboring communities. In these areas there are low levels of literacy, food insecurity, poor health, unemployment, and high levels of substance abuse.

*Tembaletu School– provides a safe educational environment for children with disabilities who live in previously disadvantaged areas and who are susceptible to physical and sexual abuse while traveling to and from school. HAF has constructed Hillsong House, which are dormitories for the children to live in while they are enrolled at school.

*Basic Need Provision – runs feeding programs for TB and HIV/AIDS patients who need food to take their medication, handles clothing distribution to needy children, women and men during the winter and summer months, and shelter placements to help families living on the streets get into shelters.

*Disaster Relief – helps with shelter and lifesaving supplies to affected families who have been victims of natural and civil disasters.

*Prison Outreach (Restoring Justice Program)  challenges offenders about their past actions and works towards reconciliation in families, marriages, and relationships.

*Social Enterprise (Brick Making Project) – teaches women who are unemployed and living in informal housing in the urban slum areas, brick-making and business skills.

*Substance Abuse Support (SafetyNet) – HAF supports SafetyNet, a home that provides secondary rehabilitation for males transitioning from addiction into society. SafetyNet helps these men rebuild their lives while committing to support groups with others who hold them accountable. They are required to do community service and also learn how to live in a structured work environment.

*Women Shelters- HAF assists many shelters for abused women & children. HAF’s volunteers help with babysitting, support groups, toys, food, clothing, and skills training for these women who are struggling to reclaim their lives.

We are currently working on two new projects which we will be launching soon. The first one is a  literacy initiative for children, and the other one is a project to help orphaned and vulnerable children.
