April 5th, 2013
Tuesday February 5, was my first official day working as an intern. We work 4 times a week: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Every Tuesday morning, we interns get to attend the church staff meeting with all the key leaders. We have praise and worship and then the pastor does a message and speaks about what’s going on across church life, sharing updates, testimonies, insight, and wisdom. When a guest speaker travels to preach on a Sunday or during a weekend conference, the guest will also come to speak with us in the meeting as well.
It’s really a privilege to sit in on the staff meetings because it means that we are being pulled into all aspects of church life. This unifies us as one team and connects us like family. I really love that I work with my team and colleagues at the office, and worship, pray and hear the word with them in the staff meetings.
After the staff meeting, we have strategy and planning. This is quiet time with the Lord. We write down our goals for the week (personal and work wise) and then, throughout the week, we strive to achieve them.
From there, we go to Bible College, where we are taught on topics, such as studying the Bible, living in God’s purpose for our lives, hearing God’s voice and being led by the Holy Spirit. The subjects are taught by people who have experiences in these areas. They also share their testimonies of what has worked really well for them, which has been very insightful and encouraging for me. There’s another college session after lunch, followed by an application session, where we break into our core groups and elaborate on what we’ve learned and how to effectively apply it to our lives.
On Tuesday afternoons, we have our Hillsong Africa Foundation (HAF) departmental meetings with the entire staff of HAF. Our CEO Wesley Douglas brings a word of Bible-based encouragement, which reminds us of why we are here and why we do what we do, as well as priceless wisdom of running a NGO, the lessons he has learned, challenges he has overcome, and valuable insights regarding social justice. This year is just not about working for HAF, but about taking what we’ve learned back to our own countries to be the hands and feet of Jesus, making a difference and changing lives.
This year at HAF we will be part of developing, launching, and initiating many new projects. We are not just interns, we are leaders, and the team we will be working with is legendary. For them to even trust us with so much is an honor. They see our potential and believe in us. This makes me want to give so much more.
Colossians 3:23 – “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as though you were doing it for the Lord.”
Love,
Juliette
